Aspen Group is a General Contractor specializing in the design and construction of churches in the Midwest and Southeast. They represented Vineyard Church in Urbana, Illinois for this project. ExpoDesign has had a professional relationship with Aspen Group since 2011.
Aspen Group’s commercial construction projects frequently involve areas for children in churches and megachurches. They needed a partner that could fabricate and install specialized theming elements and a functional learning and play space for the youth ministry of Vineyard Church—“Kingdom Kids.” Aspen Group was essentially hoping to build a castle inside of this new youth space. They wanted to represent colorful block walls with turrets, flags and an ajar drawbridge. They also wanted to install a specialty play area that incorporated the castle yard theme and included a functional system of “talky tubes,” allowing children to communicate from different areas of the space. ExpoDesign was to hired to design, fabricate and install interior theming that brought to life these existing plans for “Kingdom Kids.”
ExpoDesign proposed to line a good portion of the space with a thin layer of hardcoated, carved styrofoam resembling large castle blocks, complete with turrets and flags. We utilized our capabilities to create a 3D representation of an indoor castle scene. After several site visits to nail down tight measurements, ExpoDesign fabricated several panels of block wall and turrets with flags in our facility in Indianapolis. We also designed and fabricated several pieces of indoor play equipment for a small childrens’ area. We then installed all of our pieces in the space to fit with the design. We worked for several weeks on-site, creating a real version of the computation model. The end result was a larger-than-life castle scene that fully branded their space as a “Kingdom for Kids.”
